Jewel-Osco Recalls Signature Farms Garden Salad

jewelosco 0629 lt

Supermarket chain Jewel-Osco recalled its signature Farms Garden Salad sold in its stores in Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa as cyclospora contamination is likely.

The recalled salad, packed in 12-ounce bags has best if used by date of May 16 through July 4. The product has a UPC code of 21130 98135 and carries the unique plant number S5417.

According to the FDA, Cyclospora cayetanensis is a parasite. When people eat food or drink water that's contaminated with Cyclospora, they can get an intestinal illness called cyclosporiasis. Cyclospora is generally transmitted when infected feces contaminate food or water.

Fresh Express also recalled its bagged salads potentially linked to an outbreak of Cyclospora in Midwest states.
