As the first half of the year now lay behind us, Nielsen Music has released streaming, radio and airplay data recorded between January and July 2020.

The most staggering piece of information to be gleaned from the data is that globally, music consumption has seen a rise of 16.2% compared to the previous year, 19.3% of which was accounted for by rock artists, especially the classics.

Four of the top 5 spots on the most-streamed artists in the Rock genre are taken up by classic acts, as The Beatles come in at No. 1, Queen at No. 2, Fleetwood Mac at No. 4 and at No. 5 stands Metallica.

The most-streamed rock songs of the first half also feature widely-beloved classics of yesteryear, including Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'," "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen, and The Eagles' "Hotel California," among others.

Imagine Dragons' "Believer" was the most streamed rock song, helping the modern rock band squeeze into the top 5 of the most-streamed artists in the Rock genre at No. 3.
