Brian May publicly thanked firefighters for saving his house from wildfires.

The Queen guitarist's home and music studio in Surrey were under threat from wildfires raging across the U.K. over the weekend as temperatures soared.

"We supported the fight against the immense fires in Australia, and watched sadly as fires ravaged California, but to see this happen in my own home county has been shocking and traumatic," May said on Instagram.

He added, "Today we were able to begin to thank the amazing firefighters who risked their lives to contain this huge and treacherous wild furnace on the heath land of Sunningdale Golf Course - which actually adjoins my property."

He expressed regret over the country's fire fighting service being "criminally cut back in manpower and resources." May called for a "radical rethink" on the part of the authorities in this regard.

May also posted a photo of him and Anne Brummer, CEO of his Save Me Trust, standing in front of an area that turned into ashes by the forest fire, which is still smoldering less than a mile from his own house and studio.
