Hipgnosis Songs has acquired The Pretenders frontwoman Chrissie Hynde's music catalog.

As per a deal signed by the two parties, the music IP investment company gets exclusive rights over the iconic singer-songwriter's 164-song music publishing catalog.

Hipgnosis will also get the publishing rights and writer's share from The Pretenders and her other projects.

The hit songs written for The Pretenders by its lead vocalist and primary songwriter include "Brass in Pocket," "Talk of the Town," "Message of Love," "Back on the Chain Gang," "Middle of the Road," "2000 Miles," "Don't Get Me Wrong," "My Baby" and "I'll Stand By You."

Hipgnosis Songs Fund Limited founder Merck Mercuriadis said the acquisition of Hynde's music catalog is "very personal" for him.

"Chrissie is one of my favorite songwriters of all time and The Pretenders are one of my favorite bands of all time. Her importance cannot be overestimated and she has been a powerful role model for women and men all over the globe for 40 years" Mercuriadis added.

Mercuriadis said the reason for him continuing to be a vegetarian for 35 years and his four children following that line is due to the influence of Hynde.
