Twitter clamped a 12-hour temporary ban on Kanye West on Wednesday after he tweeted the phone number of a magazine editor, violating the social media platform's rules.

The tweet was removed about an hour later and replaced by a note saying the message violated Twitter rules.

Sharing a phone number he said belonged Forbes editor Randall Lane, West had urged his fans to call the editor. "If any of my fans want to call a white supremacist… this is the editor of Forbes," West wrote.

A spokesperson for the platform confirmed the tweet was in violation of the rule. "The Tweet was removed for posting private information, and the account has been temporarily locked in accordance with our Private Information policy," he said.

Twitter, a well as several other online services prohibit account holders from sharing others' personal details, such as phone number or address, calling such acts a violation of privacy.

The doxing tweet was among dozens of others posted during the week by West, who is reportedly suffering from bipolar disorder.

Matthew Hutchison, chief communications officer at Forbes, did not comment on West's tweet but said that the company wishes him the best.
