IBM's Blockchain-powered App To Help In Reopening After Lockdown

IBM Watson Health, the healthcare arm of technology giant IBM, has rolled out a blockchain-powered app to help people start returning to their new normal and safely re-open their businesses as local governments are re-opening communities and lifting stay-at-home orders.

Several organizations are now set to use digital health passports that are emerging as a technology solution to enable individuals to present their health status when they return to public places such as a workplace, school, stadium or airline flight.

The IBM Digital Health Pass app is a digital health passport platform powered by the IBM Blockchain and designed to combine multiple dynamic data sources such as COVID-19 test results, personal medical history and onsite temperature scans to generate a verified health status. It provides individuals the ability to store and share their health status from their mobile phones.

The app will help to calculate risk of COVID-19 like a credit score. The risk is calculated based on multiple data points, and organizations can design criteria to generate a health status, while protecting personal privacy.

The information and data on the app can be managed through an encrypted digital wallet on their personal smartphone and control what they share and for what purpose. Meanwhile, organizations can design business rules and determine responses for each health status they review.

The IBM Digital Health Pass can be designed to support the travel and transportation industries as the world resumes traveling again. It can also be designed for attending large sporting and entertainment events.

In April, sports fan engagement platform Socios.com also announced plans to launch blockchain-powered COVID-19 immunity passes for global football fans to enable them to attend live games at stadiums in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Socios Pass, an ID and immunity verification tool, will allow fans holding "Proof of Immunity" to return to the stadium and watch live games more safely and securely. The pass will include immunity certificates issued by health authorities. It will use blockchain technology and QR codes.
