With the U.S. presidential election less than three weeks away, Demi Lovato released a powerful, politically charged song titled "Commander in Chief," which makes a scathing attack on President Donald Trump.

"Were you ever taught when you were young / If you mess with things selfishly, they're bound to come undone? / I'm not the only one that's been affected and resented every story you've spun," Lovato sings in the track.

"We're in a state of crisis, people are dying/ While you line your pockets deep/ Commander in Chief /How does it feel to still be able to breathe?" Lovato asks the president, who recently recovered from a bout with the coronavirus.

On the eve of dropping the music video, Lovato wrote on Instagram, "Won't give up, stand our ground... We'll be in the streets while you're #CommanderInChief. Video dropping tomorrow. I'm calling on all of you, please join me in voting for this year's election. Find your voter information at iwillvote.com"

The song triggered criticism from some who don't share Lovato's political views and led to a war of words as she responded strongly.
