In a new interview, Normani opened up about building her confidence as an artist after her split with Fifth Harmony.

The former Fifth Harmony star, who appears on the December cover of Women's Health, revealed that being a member of the girl group affected her confidence.

Normani says she was underrated when compared to her bandmates Ally Brooke, Camila Cabello, Dinah Jane and Lauren Jauregui.

"Having certain things happen so blatantly while also feeling like the 'other' and being so young and hearing the public compare [us] took a toll on my confidence," she says. "For a long time, I didn't believe in myself because I didn't feel like I was given the opportunity to."

Normani acknowledged the support provided by Rihanna to boost her confidence.

"It's really important to show Black girls and Black boys they can be anything they want to be," according to the "Motivation" singer.
