Rapper Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, has pled guilty to the federal charges against him for illegal possession of a firearm.
The 38-year-old faces up to 10 years in federal prison for the crime, which has been classified as a federal offence owing to the fact that Carter is a previous felony offender and served 8 months in prison in 2009-10.
Carter was found to be in possession of a loaded gold-plated .45-caliber handgun when he flew into the Opa Locka Executive Airport in Miami on a private flight in December 2019.
"The charge is that because he was convicted of a felony in the past, he is prohibited from possessing a firearm," said attorney Howard Srebnick.
The sentencing hearing is scheduled for January 28, 2021.
