A moving trailer for upcoming AppleTV+ drama Palmer, in which Justin Timberlake makes his return to acting, premiered on Thursday. The film is scheduled to release in theaters on January 29.

The singer, songwriter and actor plays the title role of high-school football star Eddie Palmer, who returns home after being jailed for 12 years.

Cheryl Guerriero wrote the script for the film, directed by Fisher Stevens.

Palmer is a story about "acceptance, forgiveness and love," according to Stevens.

"Two people who ordinarily would never come together, find themselves under one roof to find the family they never had," he told People. "For me the story strikes a very personal chord and I was so lucky to have gotten to work with Justin Timberlake who along with newcomer Ryder Allen, and the whole amazing cast bring this beautiful story to life."

The Palmer cast also includes Alisha Wainwright, Ryder Allen, June Squibb and Juno Temple.
