Hanover Insurance Group Q2 Profit Rises

Hanover Insurance Group Inc. (THG) Tuesday reported second-quarter net income of $128.5 million or $3.52 per share, up from $115.2 million or $3.01 per share last year.

Operating income was $104.0 million or $2.85 per share, up from operating income of $62.7 million or $1.63 per share last year.

Net premiums written rose to $1.21 billion from $1.08 billion last year.

Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters estimated earnings of $2.38 per share on revenues of $1.15 billion.

Ontario, Canada-based Erie Meat Products Ltd. is recalling approximately 1,224 pounds of fully cooked chicken bologna products, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service or FSIS. Alexander & Hornung, a business unit of Perdue Premium Meat Co., Inc., is recalling around 234,391 pounds of fully cooked pork products citing possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service or FSIS announced. The recall involves ham and pepperoni products that come under various brands and produced on various dates.
