Janelle Monáe is set to star as Josephine Baker in an upcoming series produced by A24 and Monáe's production house Wondaland.

According to Deadline, De La Resistance will focus on Baker's role as a spy for the Allies during the French resistance helping defeat the Nazis and on her experience as one of the world's most iconic, talented and glamorous entertainers

Monáe confirmed the role on Twitter, tweeting, "A dream finally coming to life. My Hero, Long Live MADAM JOSEPHINE BAKER. Let's gooooooooooo."

Baker was born in St. Louis, Missouri, but spent much of her career in Europe. She renounced her American citizenship and become a French national. She became a glamorous and trailblazing jazz singer but was also recruited as a spy at the beginning of WWII by the French military intelligence agency, the Deuxième Bureau.

Damien Lewis, author of the upcoming Baker book "The Flame of Resistance," will also serve as researcher and co-executive producer on De La Resistance.
