With authentic victories, Brazil and Portugal have secured their place in the knockout phase of the World cup with one first round game to spare.

In injured superstar Neymer's absence, defensive midfielder Casemiro was the hero of Brazil by scoring in the Canneries's 1-0 win over Switzerland in Group G.

With seven minutes of normal time remaining, Casemiro employed attacker's technique and half-volleyed the ball into the inside net to break the deadlock.

The Real Madrid midfielder displayed an incredible performance throughout the game.

Bruno Fernandes struck a second-half double for Portugal to avenge their 2018 defeat by Uruguay and join favorites France and Brazil in the World Cup Round of 16.

The Manchester United player broke through Uruguay's defense in the 54th and 93rd minutes.

Portugal won their second goal through a penalty over Jose Maria Gimenez' handball in the box.

Fernandes rolled the ball into the bottom left corner to confirm Portugal's smooth passage out of Group H.

Iran and the United States face off in a crucial match on Tuesday to decide who will advance to the next round from Group B. A draw will be enough for the Asian team to clinch a pre-quarter final berth, while the latter must defeat Iran for the same.
