West Palm Beach, Florida-based Salento Organics is recalling various dark chocolate fruit and peanut bites citing undeclared milk, a known allergen, the U.S Food and Drug Administration said.
The recall involves 4 ounce packages of Dark Chocolate Pitaya Bites, Goldenberry Bites, Mango Bites, Banana Bites, Pineapple Bites and Peanut Bites with various lot numbers and best by dates.
The recalled Salento Organics products were distributed nationwide in retail stores and through mail orders.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the milk-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of milk. As per the investigation, the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company's production and packaging processes.
People who have allergies to milk may get serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
However, the company has not received any reports of illnesses related to the recalled products to date.
Salento Organics has suspended production of the affected product until correcting the problem.
Consumers who have purchased 4 ounce packages of Dark Chocolate Fruit and Peanut Bites are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
