Huey Lewis and the News are set to reissue their 1983 album Sports in special anniversary vinyl editions on September 15, in celebration of 40th anniversary of the album.
The Grammy-nominated album will be available in classic black and olive green vinyl.
Sports is the third album by Huey Lewis and the News, released on September 15, 1983, by Chrysalis Records. It reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 on June 30, 1984 and ultimately charted for 160 weeks.
Sports was ranked No. 2 on the Billboard year-end album chart for 1984 and spawned four top-ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100, with "Heart and Soul" and "The Heart of Rock & Roll" earning Grammy Award nominations. The album has been certified 7× Platinum by the RIAA.
"In the early 80's, there was no internet, no alternative scene, and really only one avenue to success; a hit single on CHR (Contemporary Hit Radio). We produced the Sports album ourselves because we wanted to make commercial choices we could live with while we aimed most of the tunes directly at CHR radio. Sports was a collection of singles. We needed a hit single … didn't know we'd have five of them," said Huey Lewis.
