Fourth quarter earnings totaled $28.9 million, or $0.34 per share. This compares with $62.8 million, or $0.75 per share, last year. Excluding items, Trinity Industries reported adjusted earnings of $33.2 million or $0.39 per share for the period. Analysts on average had expected the company to earn $0.34 per share. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items. The company's revenue for the period fell 21.1% to $629.4 million from $797.9 million last year.
