Shares of MeiraGTx Holdings plc (MGTX), a vertically integrated, clinical-stage genetic medicines company, touched a new 52-week high of $9.73 yesterday, following a collaboration with Eli Lilly and Co. (LLY) in ophthalmology, focusing on its AAV-AIPL1 investigational gene therapy program.
AAV-AIPL1 is being developed for the treatment of Leber congenital amaurosis 4 (LCA4), a retinal dystrophy caused by mutations in the AIPL1 gene. LCA4 leads to blindness from birth and results in complete degeneration of the retina by the age of four. There are currently no approved treatments for this devastating condition.
