AIM ImmunoTech Inc. (AIM) on Thursday reported positive data
from the ongoing Phase 2 DURIPANC study evaluating Ampligen combined with AstraZeneca's anti-PD-L1 immune checkpoint inhibitor Imfinzi in the treatment of metastatic pancreatic cancer. Following the news, the shares were surging more than 50% in pre-market trading.

The Phase 2 portion of the DURIPANC trial is expected to enroll up to 25 patients and is being conducted as a collaboration between AIM ImmunoTech, AstraZeneca and Erasmus Medical Center in the Netherlands. The primary objective of the study is to assess the clinical benefit rate of the combination therapy.

So far, 18 patients have been enrolled in the study. Lead investigator Marjolein Y. V. Homs of the Erasmus MC Cancer Institute, said that the promising progression-free survival and overall survival results seen in the Phase 1 portion of the trial continue to be observed in Phase 2, with enrollment ongoing. Erasmus MC said detailed data are expected to be published later this year.

The current study follows a 57-patient early access program in which Ampligen was used as a monotherapy in late-stage pancreatic cancer. In that program, treatment with Ampligen was associated with median overall survival of 19.7 months, compared with 8.6 months under standard of care.

AIM ImmunoTech stock fell more tham 8% on Wednesday before closing at $1.055.
