Lenny Kaye has unveiled a new track, "Solstice," from his forthcoming solo debut album, Goin' Local, due out July 17 on Yep Rec Records.
Kaye co-wrote "Solstice" with Patti Smith, continuing their multi-decade partnership that includes "Free Money", "Ghost Dance", "Radio Ethiopia," and "Southern Cross."
Of the song, Kaye states, "I wrote 'Solstice' with Patti Smith. Our collaboration continues a long history together across many of our shared works."
Goin' Local follows Kaye's 2022 memoir-cum-rock-chronicle Lightning Striking: Ten Transformative Moments in Rock and Roll. He will perform alongside Smith at the 2026 CBGB Festival later this year, after wrapping up his own U.S. dates with Dave Alvin and Jimmie Dale Gilmore.
"I feel like I'm a new artist," says Kaye about the album. "I think this album will surprise those who think they know me from what I've done previously."
