Hydrogenics Corp. (HYGS,HYG.TO) said Friday that it has been selected to provide a hydrogen electrolyzer and fuel cell for the Renewable Hydrogen Research and Demonstration Center at the Baglan Energy Park.

The research Center is being developed by the University of Glamorgan to explore the potential use of hydrogen and also methods of hydrogen production from local sources. Air Liquide Advanced Technologies, a unit of the Air Liquide Group, has been selected to integrate the whole system.

Hydrogenics said it would provide its HySTAT-10 electrolyzer, driven by wind turbines, for the production of hydrogen. The hydrogen would be used to power a Hydrogenics 1x HyPM 12 fuel cell power module.

Further, the hydrogen will be used to fuel hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, including a delivery van and shuttle bus previously integrated with a Hydrogenics fuel cell power module.

The Hydrogenics electrolyzer was selected by Air Liquide, which would provide a tailor-made solution to meet the needs of the research center. Air Liquide's solution would include hydrogen plant compression, storage and dispensing integration.

The company noted that UPS Systems Plc would install the fuel cell system for the Baglan Energy Park project.

Shares of HYGS closed Thursday's regular trading at $1.59.
