Polish President Lech Kaczynski, who is on an official visit to Slovenia, pledged Thursday that his country would ratify the Lisbon Treaty.

"Poland will not be an obstacle in the ratification," Slovenian official news agency STA quoted him as saying in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana.

Earlier, Kaczynski met with his Slovenian counterpart Danilo Tuerk.

Poland and Britain are the two members of the 27-nation European Union not to have ratified the Lisbon Treaty, which is designed to improve the bloc's decision- making process.

Ireland's rejection of the treaty through a referendum in June dampened the prospects of it coming into force on January 1 of next year, as planned, for which approval by all member nations is a must.
