Wednesday, Mexican airport operator Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, S.A.B. de C.V. or OMA (OMAB), said its March passenger traffic slumped 22.5%, hurt particularly by reductions of routes and frequencies by U.S. and domestic carriers.

OMA's total passenger traffic in March, at its 13 airports, declined 22.5% to 1.08 million from 1.40 million in the year-ago period.

Domestic traffic was down 20.8% to 0.86 million from 1.09 million last year, affected by the departure from the market of Aerocalifornia, Avolar, Aladia, and Alma and the reduction in frequencies or cancellation of routes by Aviacsa, VivaAerobus, and Magnicharter.

International traffic decreased 28.7% to 0.22 million from 0.30 million a year ago, impacted by the reduction of routes and frequencies principally by U.S. carriers.

Year-to-date, total passenger traffic slid 18.7% to 3.05 million from 3.75 million in the same period a year ago. Domestic traffic was down 18.2% to 2.42 million from 3.0 million, while international traffic dropped to 0.63 million, down 20.6%, from 0.80 million in the prior year.

Monterrey, OMA's principal airport, served about 457 thousand passengers in March, a decrease of 24.4% compared to the same month of the prior year. Domestic traffic at Monterrey airport dropped 22.6%, while international passenger traffic decreased 34.9% due to the end of operations by several domestic airlines last year and the reduction in frequencies or cancellation of routes by U.S. and domestic carriers.

OMAB is currently trading at $8.13, up $0.01 or 0.12%, on the Nasdaq.
