Friends Provident names Evelyn Bourke CFO - Update

U.K.-based life and pensions company Friends Provident Plc (FP.L) said Friday that it appointed Evelyn Bourke as its chief financial officer and also to the board, effective May 1. Charles Bellringer, who was serving as the interim finance chief, will leave the company today, the company said.

Most recently, Evelyn was the chief financial officer of Standard Life UK Financial Services, the principal operating division of Standard Life. According to the company, Evelyn Bourke joined Standard Life in 2005 as group Strategy and Planning Director and was subsequently appointed Group Actuarial Director.

Prior to joining Standard Life, she occupied various senior posts and carried out a wide range of consulting work in the life and pensions industry at Chase de Vere Investments Plc, St James' Place Plc and Tillinghast - Towers Perrin.

Adrian Montague, chairman commented, "Evelyn joins at a crucial time in the company's development as we continue to implement our strategy, drive down costs, manage the business through the current recession and position Friends Provident for a strong profitable future."

FP.L is currently trading at 63.5 pence, down 0.70 pence or 1.09%, on a volume of 764 thousand shares.
