Thursday, defense contractor Raytheon Co. (RTN) said it was awarded a $197 million U.S. Navy contract for life-cycle engineering and support of the LPD 17 class amphibious warfare ships. Raytheon is the total ship electronics systems integrator for the LPD 17 class as well as the prime contractor for life-cycle engineering and support and a member of the LPD alliance .
The contract was originally awarded in 2005 and includes five options for a total of five years of support, with Raytheon's Integrated Defense Systems' as the ship's prime provider of life-cycle engineering and support.
Raytheon provides the Shipboard Wide Area Network, integrated product data environment, total ship information management, and integrated ship electronics architecture for the LPD 17 class. The ships include both a flight deck to accommodate CH-46 helicopters and MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft, and a well deck that can launch and recover landing craft and amphibious vehicles.
Raytheon's work for the LPD 17 program is being carried out at the Expeditionary Warfare Center, San Diego, California, the Seapower Capability Center at Portsmouth, Rhodes Island, and Raytheon Technical Services Company.
Integrated Defense Systems is Raytheon's leader in Global Capabilities Integration and provides integrated solutions to a broad international and domestic customer base, including the U.S. Missile Defense Agency, the U.S. Armed Forces and the Department of Homeland Security.
RTN is currently being traded at $48.69 down $0.16 or 0.33% on a volume of 0.253 million shares on the NYSE.
