Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh says the problems with United States on the civil nuclear deal are "minor" and can be resolved in a couple of weeks even as Washington assured New Delhi that it remains committed to its early implementation.
A day before he wraps up his five-day visit Thursday, Singh told a press conference that the Indian side had a very good discussion at the highest levels and that he has been assured by the U.S. leadership that the U.S. remains committed to the early implementation of the civil nuclear agreement.
The Indian Prime Minister said there are minor problems with regard to the reprocessing (of the spent) fuel under the 123 agreement. He said that are no insurmountable problems and was confident that in the next couple of weeks these issues can be sorted out.
Earlier, in his remarks at the joint press conference Tuesday with President Barack Obama, Singh said, "we agreed on the early and full implementation of our civil nuclear cooperation agreement." He added that "our strategic partnership should facilitate transfer of high technologies to India."
On his part Obama said that he had reaffirmed to the Prime Minister his administration's "commitment to fully implement the U.S.-India civil nuclear agreement" which he said would "increase American exports and create jobs in both countries."
