South Korea Friday said a proposal was made to North Korea for holding working-level military talks on improving logistics at their Kaesong joint industrial park on February 23.
The move followed two rounds of discussions between the two acrimonious neighbors on improving functioning of the industrial park which, however, failed to resolve their existing differences.
South Korea's Defense Ministry expected Pyongyang to accept the proposal for holding a meeting in the border village of Panmunjum.
The jointly-run Kaesong industrial park is viewed as a symbol of economic cooperation between the two archrivals despite worsening bilateral ties which often put a question mark over the park's future.
Presently, the 110 South Korean firms based at Kaesong employ around 42,000 North Koreans and mainly produce labour- intensive goods.
North Korea last month had suggested holding immediate talks on improving transportation, communications and customs systems which were rejected by Seoul.
