Swiss producer and import prices dropped unexpectedly in April, data from the Federal Statistical Office showed Monday.
The producer and import price index fell 0.1 percent from a month ago, while economists were looking for a 0.2 percent rise.
The statistical office said price declines in the majority of the product groups that were surveyed this month were offset by price increases in the energy sector in particular petroleum, natural gas, motor fuel.
On a yearly basis, overall producer and import prices dropped 2.3 percent in April. The decline exceeded the expected 2.1 percent drop. Producer prices dipped 1.8 percent and import prices were down 3.4 percent.
