The average asking price for a house in the United Kingdom was up 2.0 percent on year in May, property tracking website Rightmove said on Monday - easing from the 3.4 percent increase in April.
On a monthly basis, house prices were flat following the 2.9 percent jump in the previous month.
Rightmove attributed the weak numbers to the renewed fears of debt contagion in Europe, as well as uncharitable mortgage rates.
"Perhaps the first-time buyer stamp duty holiday, and the knock-on activity it helped to create, has concertinaed the market's stronger than expected early spring momentum into the first four months of the year rather than the usual six," Rightmove director Miles Shipside said in a release accompanying the data.
