Malaysia's current account surplus decreased sequentially in the first quarter, data from the Department of Statistics showed Wednesday.
The current account surplus dropped to MYR18.1 billion in the first quarter from MYR22.4 billion in the quarter ended December 2011.
The goods trade account showed a surplus of MYR35.8 billion during the quarter, slightly lower than the previous quarter's surplus of MYR36.8 billion. Meanwhile, the services account showed a deficit of MYR3.8 billion during the three-month period, almost unchanged from the balance recorded in the fourth quarter.
The deficit int the income account rose to MYR8.6 billion in the three months ended April from MYR5.3 billion in the preceding three-month period, while the deficit in the current transfers account remained steady at MYR5.4 billion, data showed.
