German Unemployment Rate Edges Down In April

Unemployment rate in Germany declined marginally in April, the latest figures from the Federal Statistical Office showed Thursday.

The adjusted unemployment rate fell to 5.4 percent in April from 5.5 percent in March. In April last year, the rate was 6.1 percent.

On an unadjusted basis, the jobless rate dipped to 5.2 percent from 5.5 percent in the preceding month. This was also lower than 5.9 percent in the same month last year.

The number of unemployed persons fell 5.2 percent month-on-month to 2.19 million. This was 12 percent lower than last year.

Meanwhile, employment dropped slightly by 0.8 percent on a monthly basis to 39.58 million. On an annual basis, employment fell 0.1 percent.
