Bay Street stocks moved higher at open Thursday amid marginal buying across a variety of sectors, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index adding 31.41 points or 0.27 percent to 11,464.63.
Information technology services provider CGI Group Inc. (GIB_A.TO) surged 15 percent after it said its wholly owned unit CGI Holdings Europe Limited would acquire Logica plc (LOG.L).
CE Franklin Ltd. (CFT.TO) skyrocketed 35 percent after it said it would be acquired by NOV Distribution Services ULC.
Among financial plays, CIBC (CM.TO) gathered over 1 percent after posting higher second-quarter net income. TD Bank (TD.TO), Royal Bank (RY.TO) and Scotiabank (BNS.TO) were up around 1 percent each.
In the oil patch, Pacific Rubiales Energy (PRE.TO) and Imperial Oil (IMO.TO) moved up around 1 percent each.
In the gold space, Agnico-Eagle Mines (AEM.TO) and Barrick Gold (ABX.TO) gained around 1 percent each.
