Encyclopedia Britannica has inked a deal with Microsoft to have its entries added to Bing search results. In March Britannica, after 244 years of publishing, decided it would no longer offer a print version of the bookshelf clogger.
"The [Britannica search result] provides a quick overview of the subject, a thumbnail image, and useful facts and figures making it easier than ever to get trusted content in search. We also pull in direct links to other trusted sources," said Microsoft in a blog post.
The partnership figures as Bing's attempt to match Google, which in May, announced a new context-sensitive information search called knowledge graph that adds a useful info snapshot to the right hand of the search page.
Bing search results will also flag up other sources of information, including Wikipedia, Qwiki and Freebase.
