Food prices in New Zealand rose in May by 0.3 percent from April, Statistics NZ reported Thursday.
The rise follows an on-month decline of 0.1 percent in April.
Seasonal increases of 58.0 percent in tomato prices were the main factor in the monthly increase, the agency said.
Food prices were down 0.2 percent from May of 2011, the first yearly decline since August 2010.
