Austria's consumer price inflation weakened further in May, data released by Statistics Austria showed Thursday.
Annual inflation slowed to 2.1 percent in May from 2.3 percent in April. In March, the rate of inflation was 2.4 percent.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages prices gained 2.4 percent year-on-year, while clothing and footwear prices advanced 1.8 percent. There was a 3.5 percent annual growth in housing costs and utility prices during the month, and a 2.2 percent rise in transportation costs.
On a monthly basis, the consumer price index decreased 0.1 percent in May, after rising 0.4 percent in the previous month.
At the same time, the harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP), measured under the EU methodology, increased 2.3 percent annually in May, but remained flat month-on-month.
