Polish Current Account Deficit Widens In April

Poland's current account deficit increased from the previous month in April, data released by the National Bank of Poland showed Friday.

The current account deficit increased to EUR573 million in April from EUR228 million in March. In April 2011, the balance was a deficit of EUR1.149 billion.

The goods trade account showed a deficit of EUR419 million during the month, up from the EUR399 million deficit seen in the previous month. The surplus in the services account rose to EUR500 million in April from EUR396 million in the previous month.

The income account showed a deficit of EUR1.176 billion in April, which was lower than March's EUR1.196 billion deficit.

The surplus in the current transfers account dropped to EUR522 million in April from EUR971 million in the previous month.
