Facebook has added an in-app subscriptions service which will allow app developers to ensure revenue and consumers to keep updated on their favorite developers.
Facebook Product Management Director Prashant Fuloria, writing on the FB blog, notes that the service launches in July:
"Many developers successfully monetize their apps with one-time purchases of virtual items. Beginning in July, we are launching subscriptions as another way for you to build your businesses on Facebook."
"With subscriptions, you can establish a recurring revenue stream and offer updated content or premium experiences for a monthly fee," he added.
One-time purchases will still be available for those who wish to make them.
Facebook deducts a 30 percent cut from all payments on its site. However, those payments will no longer be in Facebook Credits. The social networking site has replaced its custom currency users' local currency.
