Sony's PlayStation Store has been suspended in South Korea following the government's passage of a new video game industry promotion bill. The South Korean government broke news of the new "Game Industry Promotion Act" on June 21 and it will go into effect on July 1.
The new law will ban video game service providers from requiring users under the age of 18 to provide a valid name before signing up to play. The PlayStation store does currently require all users to provide their name. The new act's quick turnaround left Sony without time to make changes to their policy, forcing them to suspend the store until they can comply with the new rules.
Thus far there is no word on when Sony will re-launch the store but they say it will be sometime with 2012. The suspension will make it impossible for users to buy new games or register games through the PlayStation store. PSP services will not be altered.
