An indicator of service sector output in the United Kingdom increased in April compared to a year earlier, data from the Office for National Statistics showed Friday.
The seasonally adjusted Index of Services increased 2 percent in April compared with the same month in 2011. Comparisons with April 2011 are affected by special events, including the additional bank holiday for the Royal Wedding.
All of the four service sector components increased during the month.
Business services and finance rose 2.1 percent and transport storage and communication increased 4.8 percent. These were the largest contributions to the increase, the statistical office said.
Between March and April, the index was flat.
