Poland's Central Bank Keeps Rate Steady

Poland's central bank on Wednesday decided to leave its key rates unchanged as widely expected as policymakers assess the impact of debt crisis.

The Monetary Policy Council maintained the benchmark reference rate at 4.75 percent. The rediscount rate was retained at 5 percent and the deposit rate at 3.25 percent. The lombard rate was kept steady at 6.25 percent.

The National Bank of Poland is set to hold a press conference today at 1400 GMT.

The central bank lifted rates in May for the first time in ten months. The rates were raised by a quarter point to combat inflation. Consumer price inflation fell to 3.6 percent in May from 4 percent.
