Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (SSNLF.PK, SSNNF.PK) received a favorable ruling in the U.K. on Monday when a judge said the firm's Galaxy tablets do not infringe Apple Inc.'s (AAPL) registered design for iPad, reports said.
Judge Colin Birss said the Galaxy tablets are not as cool as the Apple design, stating they "do not have the same understated and extreme simplicity which is possessed by the Apple design."
The judge said Samsung's products were very thin and had unusual details on the back. Apple has 21 days to appeal.
Samsung reportedly said the judgment affirmed its position that the Galaxy does not infringe the design rights of Apple.
Samsung and Apple are engaged in legal tussles in several countries. Last week, Samsung lost its appeal against the preliminary injunction that prevented it from selling its Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the U.S., pending further review.
Samsung is currently trading on the Kospi at 1,122,000.00 Korean won, down 0.4 percent, on 231,326 shares.
AAPL closed on Monday higher by 1.32 percent at $613.89 on 13.55 million shares.
