Research in Motion Ltd. (RIM, RIM.TO), the manufactures of Blackberry mobile devices, said the US court for the Northern District of California returned a verdict against it and directed to pay $147.2 million in a litigation against Mformation Technologies Inc. RIM in a statement said it is disappointed by the verdict and will evaluate all legal options.
Mformation filed the patent litigation in 2008, claiming patent over a remote management system for wireless device. Mformation is engaged in remote fixing and upgrading of gadgets for its various clients including AT&T and Sprint. RIM argued that it had the technology in question, before Mformation filed for patent.
