Eurozone Current Account Surplus Increases In May

The Eurozone current account surplus increased in May following a sharp decline in April, a report from the European Central Bank showed Thursday.

The seasonally adjusted current account surplus rose to EUR 10.9 billion in May from EUR 5.5 billion in April and EUR 12.6 billion in March.

The surplus on trade in goods rose to EUR 8.9 billion from EUR 6.9 billion in the previous month. Likewise, the surplus in services rose to EUR 6 billion from EUR 5.9 billion in April.

The income account showed a surplus of EUR 5.2 billion, higher than April's EUR 1.8 billion surplus. The deficit on current transfers widened slightly to EUR 9.2 billion from EUR 9.1 billion in April.
