MetroCorp Bancshares Inc. (MCBI) reported that its second-quarter net income applicable to common stock was $2.52 million up from $1.76 million in the year ago quarter. Earnings per share of $0.16 increased 23.1% for the second quarter of 2012 compared with $0.13 for the second quarter of 2011.
Net interest income for the quarter was $13.6 million, an increase of $397,000 or 3.0% compared with $13.2 million for the same period in 2011. Noninterest income for the quarter was $1.8 million, an increase of $189,000 or 12.0% compared with $1.6 million for the same period in 2011.
