Hungary Q2 Jobless Rate Drops More Than Expected

Unemployment in Hungary decreased more than economists expected in the second quarter, data released by the Central Statistical Office showed Tuesday.

The unemployment rate decreased to 10.9 percent in the second quarter from 11.2 percent in the three months ended May. Economists were looking for a jobless rate of 10.11 percent.

There were a total of around 472,200 unemployed persons during the second quarter, down from about 485,400 recorded in the previous period, data showed.

The jobless rate among youth, aged between 15 and 24, was 27.9 percent during the quarter, higher than 27 percent recorded in preceding three-month period.

Separately, the agency said Hungary's employment rate rose to 50.6 percent in the second quarter from 50.2 percent in the three months ended May. The number of persons in employment moved up to around 3.87 million from 3.85 million.
