Edison International (EIX) reported second-quarter net income attributable to common shareholders of $74 million or $0.22 per share, compared to $176 million or $0.54 per share in the year-ago quarter.
Second quarter 2012 core earnings were $103 million or $0.32 per share, down from $182 million or $0.56 per share in the prior year quarter.
On average, 10 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings of $0.30 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Total operating revenue for the quarter rose to $3.06 billion from $2.98 billion in the comparable quarter last year, while four street analysts had a consensus revenue estimate of $3.12 billion for the quarter.
The company said it would provide 2012 earnings guidance after SCE has received a final decision on its 2012 CPUC General Rate Case.
