US Dream Team Trounces Nigeria 156-73 For Highest Score In Olympic History

The U.S. dream team scored an Olympic record points haul at the basketball arena on Thursday, when they defeated Nigeria 156-73 in the highest score in Olympic history.

Carmelo Anthony and Russell Westbrook were the greediest members of Team USA, gobbling up 37 and 21 points respectively.

The points record fell in the final game of the night when Andre Igoudala of the U.S. hit a three-point shot with 4:27 minutes left in the game to make it 139-68, surpassing the previous record of 138 scored by Brazil against Egypt in 1988.

Several records had tumbled by the time the match ended just before midnight.

Carmelo Anthony broke Stephon Marbury's record of 31 points in a match for a U.S. basketball player in an Olympic Games.

Their winning margin of 83 points beat their previous best of 72 against Thailand - a 101-29 win in 1956.

The U.S. dream team, made up of the NBA superstars such as Kobe Bryant, is the defending champions, and remains unbeaten at London 2012.
