French Business Sentiment Weakens In July

France business confidence weakened marginally as expected by economists for July, survey results from the Bank of France revealed Wednesday.

The business sentiment index fell to 90 from 91 in June.

Industrial activity posted a slight contraction mainly due to lower levels of activity in the automotive and textile sectors in July. The outlook for the coming months suggests a slight slowdown in economic activity.

Business confidence for services came in at 90, down from 91 in June. The service sector activity remained stable in July, and the outlook points to stable activity over the short run.

According to the monthly index of business activity, the economy is expected to shrink 0.1 percent in the third quarter.
