While a new poll shows President Barack Obama leading Republican rival Mitt Romney in the key battleground states of Virginia and Wisconsin, the poll also showed the president trailing the former Massachusetts Governor in Colorado.
The Quinnipiac University/New York Times/CBS News Swing State Poll released Wednesday showed Obama leading Romney by 49 percent to 45 percent in Virginia and by 51 percent to 45 percent in Wisconsin.
However, the poll showed that Romney leads Obama by 50 percent to 45 percent in Colorado, which Obama won by nine percentage points in 2008.
Obama leads among women in all three states but has the narrowest lead among female voters in Colorado. Similarly, Romney leads among men in all three states but has the widest lead in Colorado.
Additionally, Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute, noted, "Voters in Virginia and Wisconsin see the two candidates as roughly even on the question of who can best fix the economy, but Romney is ahead 10 points in Colorado."
Reflecting the tightness of the race in Colorado, however, the latest batch of polls has shown mixed results for the state.
A recent Public Policy Polling survey showed Obama leading Romney by 49 percent to 43 percent in Colorado, while a separate Rasmussen Reports poll showed a tie.
Obama traveled to Colorado earlier on Wednesday and is due to hold two campaign events in Denver and Grand Junction.
The Quinnipiac/New York Times/CBS News polls included 1,412 likely Virginia voters, 1,428 likely Wisconsin voters, and 1,463 likely Colorado voters. The three polls all had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.6 percentage points.
Separate Quinnipiac/New York Times/CBS News polls released earlier this month showed Obama leading in the key swing states of Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
