Austria Inflation Eases In July

Inflation in Austria eased modestly in July, data published by Statistics Austria revealed Thursday.

The rate of inflation measured by the harmonized index of consumer prices slowed to 2.1 percent in July from 2.2 percent in June. The consumer price inflation also eased to 2.1 percent from 2.2 percent in June.

Moderately rising food and fuel prices, each at an annual rate of 3 percent, led to a fairly constant annual rate of change of about 2 percent for the third month in a row, the statistical office said.

At the same time, price increases for housing, water and energy remained the key driver of inflation during the month.

On a monthly basis, the consumer price index declined 0.3 percent. Month-on-month, HICP fell 0.5 percent.
