Swedish Jobless Rate Declines In July

Sweden's unemployment rate decreased from last year in July, data released by the Public Employment Service showed Friday.

The unemployment rate declined to 4.6 percent in July from 4.7 percent in the same month last year. Economists were looking for a jobless rate of 4.5 percent.

The number of jobless persons in the country, meanwhile, increased to 214,101 from 211,172 in July 2011, the agency said.

A total of 378,033 persons, representing 8.1 percent of the labor force, were either registered as unemployed or enrolled in programs with activity support during the month, higher than 365,410 recorded a year earlier.
